Getting started
What is Canvas Studio?
Canvas Studio is a visual page builder plugin for Craft CMS by LindemannRock. It lets you compose sections, rows, columns and modules inside an entry, using a shared design system. Read the introduction for the thinking behind it.
Do I still need a developer?
Yes. A developer sets up Craft, defines the content model, configures the Canvas theme and integrates the output with your templates. Canvas provides the visual composition tools so your team does not have to build those controls again for every project.
How does Canvas fit into a Craft site?
A Canvas field holds the visual composition within an entry. Your surrounding Craft templates render that field through Canvas’s Twig helper. Craft continues to manage entries, assets, sites and publishing, and structured fields can sit alongside the composition. See how it fits into Craft.
Design and editing
How do responsive layouts work?
Start with a base composition, then override the settings that need to change at a breakpoint. You can adjust choices such as column arrangement, spacing and typography for smaller screens. The theme defines the grid and breakpoints. Try the responsive example in the walkthrough.
Are the website demos the actual Canvas editor?
We’re preparing a full demo of the Canvas Studio editor so you can see the complete workflow. For now, the interactive examples on this website introduce composition, shared design, responsive behavior and reuse. Get notified when the full demo is ready.
Reuse and existing sites
What is the difference between a Component and a Static block?
A linked Component keeps its structure and design connected to a master, while placements can have local text and images. Updating the master updates the shared design. A Static block is an independent copy that can be reshaped without changing the original or other copies.
Does Canvas replace Matrix, Neo or Vizy?
Canvas offers a different approach to composing visual page layouts. It does not mean every structured field or rich content workflow on a site should be replaced. Choose around the content and editing tasks you need to support. Our comparison guide explains the approaches and links to individual comparisons.
Can I automatically migrate an existing page builder?
Automatic migration from Matrix, Neo, Vizy or a custom builder is not available at this time. We may explore migration tools in the future, but our priority right now is getting a stable Canvas Studio build ready for public release.
Launch and updates
Where can I find release details and pricing?
Release details and pricing will be shared when they are ready. Get launch updates to hear when Canvas Studio is available.
Are the template library and entry-connected Components included yet?
The expanding template library, dedicated header and footer library sections, and Components that read content from a selected entry are planned additions. They are separate from the composition and reuse features described on the site. See what is planned.
